Paradise Was the Best Decision Ever
One of the best parts about flying off to a dreamy destination? The chance to sneak in some family time and personal magic before the adventure even begins. After soaking up every ounce of Christmas cheer, we dashed off on Christmas Day, no less—because who doesn't love a little jet-setting after a full day of festivities?
We caught a red-eye flight around 11:50 PM out of LAX, and thanks to the nonstop holiday excitement, we had enough energy to tackle the maze that is the airport. But once I settled into my plush Premium Economy seat on Air Tahiti Nui (hello, legroom!), I instantly knew I made the right call.

Premium Economy Perks - Yes, Please
Fast-forward 9 ½ smooth hours later—we landed in Papeete, Tahiti. I walked off the plane feeling refreshed, not cramped or achy (a Christmas miracle?). And that’s when the magic really began.
Hello Fresh Leis!
We were greeted like VIPs. I’m talking fresh flower leis, a smiling greeter holding a sign, and our amazing driver ready to go. Tahiti Legends nailed it—WhatsApp info, local tips, and a breakfast suggestion at the ferry terminal (because priorities).

Off to Moorea We Go
Moorea is just a 45-minute ferry ride from Papeete, and you can actually see it from the dock. The whole ride over was a mix of “wow, this is stunning” and “are we there yet?!”
Upon arrival, another smiling driver was waiting and shared stories of growing up in French Polynesia—talk about a warm welcome. We even made a quick stop at a scenic overlook for a sneak peek of the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort before heading to our home base: Manava Suite Resort.
Cue the Tropical Daydream
Imagine this: a crystal blue ocean in front, majestic green mountains behind, and overwater bungalows scattered like a postcard come to life. That’s Manava Resort.
We were greeted with fresh juice and flowers (because, of course), and dove straight into island life: swimsuits on, lunch enjoyed, and then—yes—straight into that glorious infinity pool. A pool boy circled the lagoon with snorkel gear ready, just in case we wanted to meet the local sea life (sharks and turtles, anyone?).
Whether you stay in an overwater bungalow (hello, ocean friends swimming below!) or a garden bungalow with a private plunge pool, everything felt peaceful, quiet, and luxurious. Just don’t expect blazing fast Wi-Fi—this is island life, and it’s a gentle nudge to disconnect.
A Beach Wedding Surprise & Polynesian Charm
One highlight? Witnessing a real Polynesian wedding! The bride arrived by outrigger canoe (yes, really), gliding toward a beach cove where friends and family waited. We quietly watched from a distance—it was beautiful, traditional, and unforgettable. Resort shows are great, but this? Next level.
Adventure Time: ATV Tour & Island Secrets
Exploring Moorea by ATV? Highly recommend. We zipped through pineapple fields, learned island lore, and made the epic climb up to the Belvedere Lookout. The view? Absolutely breathtaking—360 degrees of lush islands, and on a clear day, you can even see Bora Bora. Truly humbling.

Snorkeling with Sharks, Rays & a Little Miscommunication
Our glass-bottom snorkeling tour with Captain Taina had a small hiccup—the taxi driver took a wrong turn, so we missed our private boat and joined a group tour instead. But hey, silver lining: the owner’s son was our guide, and he treated us like family. We snorkeled with rays and sharks (bucket list ✔️), then enjoyed a surprise lunch on their private motu. Pure magic.

Rangiroa: A Color Explosion to End the Year
After four days in Moorea, it was off to Rangiroa via a quick ferry and short flight (with, once again, seamless support from Tahiti Legends). Rangiroa is not an island—it’s one of the world’s largest atolls, and it absolutely blew me away.
End-of-year drift snorkeling with dolphins? Yes. Coral reefs bursting with life and color? Double yes. I’m still dreaming about those vibrant underwater views.

Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa - My Peaceful Paradise
This place felt like visiting longtime friends. Warm greetings, stunning views, and total tranquility. I had a moment in the hot tub where I looked around thinking, “Wait...is this place sold out?” It was that serene—just us, the stars, and the gentle swish of sharks beneath the deck.
Starting the New Year, Island-Style
We wrapped up with a Unique Tahiti Tour back in Papeete, learning about black sand beaches, waterfalls, and upcoming Olympic surfing spots. Then came the bittersweet overnight flight home.

But don’t worry, French Polynesia—you haven’t seen the last of me. Bora Bora is officially next on my list!
